Popular Day Trips from Munich

Feeling like going around, but utilized all your vacations on the previous visit to home? Here are my suggestions for worthy day trips from Munich. The transportation will be covered with MVV all zone ticket or with Bavarian pass.

  1. One of the nearest day trips would be to lake Herrsching and Starnberg which lies within Munich MVV network. Go there in Summer with a sheet to relax on and it refreshes you with no doubt.hersching.jpg
  2. The world famous Neuschwanstein castle lies just within 130 km from Munich, which makes it ideal for a day trip from Munich with a travel time of ~ 5 hours. I went there in December with my college group and had a friend with amazing photography skills click this one.neuschwanstein.jpg
  3. The birth place of Mozart, Salzburg with a castle in front of Mirabel Garden and a hint of Alps in it’s streets. The train journey from Munich to Salzburg is fabulous as well!IMG_20171028_180653237
  4. Hallstatt, a small village situated on Hallstätter See. Considered as one of the most beautiful villages, is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. You might want to combine this trip along with the salt mines in Austria to make it a weekend trip. Since it might be a little hard to cover it in a day trip using public transportation!
  5. Zugspitze, located about 2950m above sea level is the highest peak in Germany. You can consider a hike in summer or even just a cable car ride in winter to enjoy it’s breathtaking views.zugspitze.JPG
  6. Garmisch, famous for it’s skiing resort in winter can also be a hiking spot in summer. You enjoy the views on the roads with mountains view just as soon as you move out of the train station.garmisch.jpg
  7. Oberstdorf, a town in Allgäu yet again famous as a skiing place or hiking in summer can make you feel instantly refreshed.oberstdorf.jpg
  8. Friedrichschafen, a city on the lake BodenSee. This city is also near the border of Switzerland and Austria.  We came across this city on our trip to Zurich and  it has magnificient wide range of mountains all along the autobahn. So, just a drive along it’s autobahn can be very refreshing.friedrichs
  9. Nuremberg and Rothenburg, both well known for their medieval old towns surely leaves you overwhelmed.Nuremberg
  10. Ulm, a city on the banks of Danuber in the border of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. It has a botanical garden and an another gorgeous old town. There is also a small lake called Blautopf which is famous for it’s color.ulm_1.jpg
  11. Rhine Falls, located an hour away from Zurich. Being considered as the largest waterfall in Europe is a must visit if you are in Munich. You can also cover the old town of Zurich.IMG_20180714_123736532_HDR

    1. You are welcome 🙂 There are good number of busses between Zurich and Munich throughout the day, starting at 7 am. It takes approximately 3.5 hours to reach Zurich ZOB, and then another 40 mins in Zurich S bahn for the majestic Rhine Falls.
