Keukenhof Tulip Festival

Keukenhof gardens in the Netherlands attracts more than a million visitors every spring. Keukenhof opens it’s doors for the visitors from March end until mid May. Their website is very well updated with information on the events and how to travel from many primary locations in the Netherlands.

Dinesh and myself visited the Tulip festival in Easter break 2019. The Netherlands is world famous for their tulips. We could see the tulip fields even from our flight, they appeared like colorful blankets from a height.

Once our bus dropped us at the garden, we deposited our bags in the luggage lockers (luckily we found a place). As we entered the park, we were mesmerized by the crowd! We collected the map of the park and started walking to loose ourselves to the beauty of these flowers. Every year, they have a specific theme and this year (2019) it was called ‘Flower Power’. I will let the pictures speak šŸ˜‰

It is not just outdoor flowers, there are multiple pavilions inside the park. To be exact, there were 6 of them, and we managed to visit 2. These pavilions displays lovely arts all made out of flowers. Wonder how much of hard work went behind display at these pavilions!

Along with clear sunny days, we had a great time in the Netherlands for our Easter break 2019. I was inspired by many pretty pictures from friends, that made me want to visit this place. Keukenhof is surely rightly called as the Garden of Europe.

A few tips if you plan to visit Keukenhof Tulip Festival:

Check their website before you plan to book any organized tour. There are specific buses during the time of this festival, which drops right in front of the fields.

  1. Plan to visit in the mid April, so that tulips are in their full glory.
  2. Be sure to go as early as possible (park opens at 8) to avoid the crowd.
  3. Do not carry heavy bags. It is very difficult to find a luggage locker empty. And you won’t enjoy your visit if you have to carry heavy bag and walk long!
  4. Pick a map right near the entrance in the big basket (free of cost) so that you won’t get lost šŸ˜€
  5. Be prepared for long queues at restaurants and toilets! šŸ˜€ Plan in advance.

At the end, a must have picture when you are in Amsterdam šŸ˜‰ They now have these letters at the airport itself (exit towards the city) to avoid the crowd at famous destinations.
